Shop the Season: Gifts For the Designer on Your List

Eric from the executive office selects the best "design" gifts at Bank of America Winter Village Holiday Shops--and he should know, he's a designer!

Perennially the Holiday Shops at Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park provide a well-rounded offering of gifts that satisfy all senses; sight, taste, touch, smell… sound is covered by the excited “oohs” and “ahas” you’ll hear from your recipients. This season, as usual, The Shops do not disappoint.

Bergies Sock Shops (kiosk C1)
Take a look at the Famous Artist Series Hot Sox Collection here ($12 each; 2 pairs for $22). The design is in the details in these woven "toe-in-cheek" versions of well-known works. Among the usual masterpieces rendered is one of my favorites: Girl with a Pearl Earring.

That’s what I call drawing a bead.

Raaka Chocolate (kiosk C5)
It’s often a matter of taste. That certainly applies literally and figuratively to the offerings here. Equally gorgeous to eyes and tastebuds alike are the rich range of special flavors. Choices, choices; one of my colleagues conducted a survey among us to see if a favorite would rise above the rest.

I strongly advise you to test for yourself. #WinWinSituation.

5th & Madison (kiosk B2)
Shane at 5th & Madison is always blending up great formulas of fragrance, and the new "Clou de Girofle" ($38 for the luxurious double-wick ensconced in blackened silver) is one of the best yet. There’s a craft in paring down ingredients and it’s really evident here in this match of timber to clove. Resinous but not overpowering; warmly inviting but not schmalzy, this candle would fare equally well in a man-cave or "best parlor."

Easy to follow your nose here.

Infinitylights (kiosk A1)
Yes I know I mentioned them last season, but look at them; just LOOK at them ($27 to $35). Trip the light fantastic; ’nuf said.

Bring light to your life.

Christina’s World (kiosk A4)
Good things buzz in small packages. These tiny insect ornaments ($24), get a leg up on the more pedestrian kind at your corner drugstore.

Decorate the tree with a couple of these and you’ll be winging it in style.

Bryant Park Shop and Info (kiosk A6)
Chair and chair alike. Our shop has a new ornament this season; a lilliputian version of our iconic park bistro chair ($31), in sparkling silvery metal. Gift some of these and I think you’ll be sitting pretty.

Bling out your tree.

Fenton Eyewear (kiosk K10)
WOOD I? Well, yes, if you mean desire these natural-material frames ($89). Nice modern lines and genuine responsibly sourced wood and stone, strengthened for everyday wear make these a fairly TREEmendous gift idea, especially for yourself.

Put on a pair and you’ll finally be able to see the forest…
