Signs of Spring: Roll Out the Emerald Carpet

The park's most dramatic sign of spring is the lawn roll-out, which occurred early Saturday morning. The sod's composition is similar to that of previous years: a mix of Kentucky bluegrass and fescue from a local sod farm in New Jersey. This year we are a little behind schedule due to the winter's extreme cold, so expect the lawn to open in mid-May.
The lawn was re-graded after the ice rink load-out to ensure proper drainage for the grass.
Irrigation heads were installed throughout the area.
Sod awaits roll-out. Each of the 77 pallets contained 600 square feet of sod.
Our contractors roll out the green carpet. This dramatic change took just 7 hours and 30 workers.
Now water, watch, and wait. The roots must establish so that the lawn is healthy for the thousands of feet that will walk on it.
What have you missed most about the lawn? Tell us in the comments below.
