Giant Horses Rear their Heads at Bryant Park

As the Analogia installation loads out, another exciting artwork will take its place. Starting Friday, March 21, two 15-foot high horse heads will take residency in the park for a month in an installation called The Kelpies.

The horse heads are scale models of two 100-foot high heads located in Falkirk, Scotland. Sculpted by that nation's leading public artist, Andy Scott, The Kelpies celebrate the heavy horses instrumental to Scotland's development. The scale models, referred to as The Maquettes, will be the backdrop to music and presentations during Tartan Week, celebrated April 4th - 8th this year.

The heads are sculpted of bits of steel plate, giving them lightness and movement as seen in this rendering.
The Bryant Park team worked closely with the American-Scottish Foundation, headquartered in Midtown, to bring The Kelpies to the park. For more information about the Scottish installation, visit The Kelpies website.
