Our third artist in residence this summer is Marilyn Rose, who will be taking the traditional medium of watercolor and boldly pushing its limits, as she documents the places where objects meet – the junctures that create a space in which the inner and outer journey are explored. For Ms. Rose, art is about passion and a certain confidence in the medium. The brush strokes are obvious and the pigment fearlessly applied, which implicitly invites the viewer to join in the process.

Ms. Rose’s experience is not only evident in her work, but also in the many accolades she has received over the years. Having graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BFA as a Fred Conway Fine Arts Fellow, Ms. Rose continued on to the School of Visual Arts located in New York City. She has had the privilege of painting with distinguished watercolorists such as Mel Stabin, Charles Reid, and Jean Uhl Spicer, while being featured in numerous juried exhibitions as well as having her own show that was met with critical acclaim. Ms. Rose’s membership in the Northeast Watercolor Society, New Jersey Watercolor Society, and Baltimore Watercolor society speak to her active role in the art community in addition to her honors and awards.
