Dorian Wind Quintet Plays the Finale of #BPNewMusic

The Dorian Wind Quintet takes the stage this Friday as the triumphant last installment of the 2013 New Music in Bryant Park series. Virtuosos in their own right, the members of the Quintet have traveled literally around the world--as close as the boards at Carnegie Hall, and as far as Asia--as lauded performers.

Dorian Wind Quintet, formed in 1961, has counted many performers among its members over the years.
The commissioned work, "Belgian Bliss," is a 20 minute fantasy on the Mendelssohn Wedding March written by composer David Del Tredici on the occasion of his friend's wedding to a Belgian woman. The Dorian Wind Quintet will also play other pieces: "Woodwind Quintet," which seeks to capitalize on the specific capacities of each instrument in the group; "La Nouvelle Orleans," symbolizing the advent of the new emerging from the old; and "Natural Discourses," inspired by the scenes and sensations found in nature in upstate New York.

We thank everyone who made the New Music in Bryant Park series a success. In particular, we express our gratitude for our partner Chamber Music America and the talented group of musicians who graced our Bryant Park stage.

All commissioned pieces in the New Music in Bryant Park series are funded by Chamber Music America. Funding for the CMA's commissioning programs is provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
