If you were in Bryant Park during the first two weeks of July, you likely spotted our first Painter in Residence of the year, Frank Hanavan. Mr. Hanavan specializes in capturing the quality of light as seen on his subject rather than the subject itself. In addition to painting his photograph-quality landscapes, Mr. Hanavan involved many park-goers in his process. As one of our most genial and outgoing painters yet, he allowed them to observe and learn as he painted different elements of the park.

Mr. Hanavan has had his work displayed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and most recently in the Hoboken Historical Museum; the exhibit was a retrospective of his work called “Frank Hanavan Painting the Town” that displayed historically accurate paintings of Hoboken over the past two decades. You can see the majority of his work, including his work of Bryant Park, on his website.

July 15 – July 28:  Luis Mijangos
