I set out on a quest for different types of illuminations at Bank of America Winter Village. With the weather turning cold, I find that light can be a welcome source of warmth, even if it is more symbolic than literal heat. Not to mention that the holidays are a great time for festive lighting of all kinds. Many Holiday Shops fit the bill.
Infinity Lights: Booth A01 in the 40th Street Allee (map)
These lights are definitely the showstoppers of the market. Made from recycled plastic milk jugs, these modular creations actually come as a pack of flat pieces with instructions for 30 different designs. Stop by the shop to select a custom combination of colors in your pack, purchase a cord and bulb, then take your materials home to start creating. Small sized pack is $25 and larger size pack is $35.
Vivi Sun Jewelry: Booth H07 in the 42nd Street Allee (map)
A perennial favorite, Vivi Sun has a gorgeous selection of jewelry, including fun stud earrings and jewelry made from deconstructed watches. For the light category, you must check our their Composition collection. The flecks inside these rings and necklaces catch the light in an astounding way. You'll be party perfect with the light adorning your jewels. The necklaces pictured are $88, but come in smaller varieties as well.
Seasonal Illuminations: Booth J10 on the Upper Terrace (map)
The candles at Season Illuminations not only light up to fit the category perfectly, but they also have glitter and bubbles inside, which catch the light in a beautiful way. The most popular themes are, of course, the most seasonally appropriate including Pine, Glitter Poinsettia, and Apple Cinnamon. Once the wax burns out, these ingenious lights are sized perfectly for you to add a tealight to the center to rekindle the magic luminescence. With sizes ranging from $23-$40, think house warming, home decorating, you name it.
OrganicWares: Booth H04 in the 42nd Street Allee (map)
OrganicWares deals primarily in eco-friendly homespun scarves, but don't forget these handmade lights. The yarn covering on these strands makes them perfect for year-round use. Prices start at $32.
Grand Bazaar: Booth F11 in the 42nd Street Allee (map)
And for the piece de resistance in the lighting category, stop by Grand Bazaar for their handmade Turkish glass creations. Tabletop pieces start at $25 here for tealight holders, and go all the way up to $400 for a 7 piece hanging chandelier.
