Behind the Scenes: Look Inside a Picnic Basket

Behind the Scenes is a weekly Sunday series that covers the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival presented by Bank of America. From food to films and traditions to (Airstream) trailers, we'll share secrets behind the Film Fest. Stick with us for all 10 weeks, and by the end you'll be an expert!

You may be wondering how hundreds of people entertain themselves for the four hours between the running of the lawn at 5pm and the start of the movie around 9pm. Unsurprisingly, the most popular activity is setting up a picnic on the lawn. From junk food to gourmet fare, the picnics come in all shapes and sizes. They are all a big part of what makes the Film Festival so special! To help you plan your pre-movie picnicking strategy, we scoured the lawn for our favorite spreads.

To start off our jaunt around the lawn, we came across these two enjoying a lip-smacking variety of snacks.

Bagels, juice, pizza, and chips - what else could a kid want?

Another group got fancy with baguette, basil, and tomatoes.

They even brought cutlery and a cutting board to bring their picnic to the next level.

These Film Fest-goers went with the snack food strategy, bringing more classic movie theater treats like candy and chips to the lawn.
Why buy four bags of chips when you can buy 24?
If you just don't have the time or patience to put together a picnic basket, fear not! The Hester Street Fair joins us every week, providing any snack your hungry stomach desires. Pick up some lemonade to beat the late-afternoon heat or enjoy a taco or two.
Vendors at Hester Street Fair bring a variety of savory and sweet foods to the Film Festival, so your options are limitless.
Don't forget, Bank of America has you covered with free popcorn and water at each screening, while supplies last.
And what's a picnic without a great blanket? Bryant Park has you covered there as well. Stop by the Bryant Park Shop in the Hester Street Fair and take a look at our "Meet Me on the Lawn" Film Festival blanket available for purchase.

Whether you bring your own or get food here, the Bryant Park lawn is the perfect place for an after-work picnic with friends, family, and strangers. Join us tomorrow for Lover Come Back, an exciting tale of competing Madison Avenue ad executives willing to stoop as low as need be to score clients.

Don't forget to bring some grub!
