FitClub Gets Midtown Awake and In Shape

We are so excited about our new series of Bryant Park FitClub classes, which give the opportunity for a free and awesome workout before work begins. We've spoken about FitClub theoretically, before it started in the park, so we wanted to give you an update on the classes.

Kimberly and Katherine (in yellow) explain each position with an explanation and demonstration.
On Mondays, Pilates with Pilates on Fifth starts at 7:30am. If you're unfamiliar with Pilates, it concentrates on strengthening the deep muscles of the abdomen and spine--muscles that need help, especially for those of us who sit in a desk all day. Fans of yoga may find Pilates enjoyable, as some of the exercises are similar. The studio owners, Kimberly and Katherine (identical twins and former Rockettes!) take turns teaching the class and demonstrating the correct way to do each exercise. The studio is also a Pilates teacher training center (over 700 instructors have come through their doors) so teachers-in-training attend the class and ensure participants are doing the exercises correctly. You will learn Pilates from the very best!

Even though you're working hard at Pilates, you don't get too sweaty, and the class is over at 8:30am so you have time to freshen up and grab a coffee before work. There is nothing better than a good Pilates workout, with a shining sun and gurgling fountain to set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

Pilates participants strengthen their cores. This past Monday, we had 34 participants!

On Wednesdays, Boot Camp with The Rise starts at 6:30am. If you're new, introduce yourself to one of the instructors wearing a camouflage shirt--they may look intimidating but are astoundingly friendly. In fact, boot camp with The Rise is probably the friendliest boot camp you'll ever have the pleasure of participating in. And with all the smiles and high-fives that go down, the squats you're doing will feel a whole lot easier. Head on over to The Rise's Facebook page for some great photos of the class, or check out the video below, shot with a GoPro camera, that captures one half-hour class in 90 seconds. You'll be dirty and sweaty by the end of class, but you'll have plenty of time to head to your home or gym to shower before work. With such a cheerful and productive start to the day, you'll be sure to return!

It takes a special kind of person to drag themselves out of bed early enough to make it to FitClub. Did you know that you are that special person? The hardest part is getting out of bed; after that achievement, completing the workout is a piece of cake. Do yourself a favor and start your day off right!
