Roundup: Special Olympics Skating Showcase at Bank of America Winter Village

Last week Bank of America Winter Village skating rink was the site of a pit stop for New York Special Olympic athletes on their way to state competitions in Syracuse, held this past weekend. The Syracuse Games, one of three statewide competitions held each year, featured over 1,000 athletes from across New York State. Special Olympians Peter Dailey, Cori Peils, Nicole Clapper, and Joseph Penzel performed the figure skating routines that they brought to Syracuse. To cap off the celebration, Bank of America donated $15,000 to Special Olympics New York.

The Special Olympic athletes were not the only performers to take the ice; Olympic medal-winner Michael Weiss, British ice dancing champions John and Sinead Kerr, and the synchronized New York Skyliners all shared their talents. The crowd cheered on the athletes with cowbells and pom-poms to build momentum on their way to state competition!

Special Olympian Peter Dailey wowed the crowd with his finesse on the ice.
