Get Ready... Word for Word

The 10th season of Word for Word at the Bryant Park Reading Room is just around the corner. Get ready for famous authors, lauded poets, beloved children's characters, and a new financial literacy series.

This is a time of intense preparation for spring at Bryant Park, and the Reading Room staff has been busy planning another great season of Word for Word at the Bryant Park Reading Room sponsored by HSBC.

For our signature series, Word for Word Author, we’ve lined up readings by Wendy Williams (Ask Wendy), Chuck Klosterman (I Wear the Black Hat), Ben Mezrich (Straight Flush), Lionel Shriver (Big Brother), and Dan Savage (American Savage).

Children’s programming kicks off on June 8 with an appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog. Cali Co Cat returns for Word for Word Kids, and this year, kids can look forward to seeing characters from ComicCon, including Betty, Veronica, and Superman.

We will debut the new Word for Word HSBC Financial Literacy series on Tuesday, June 25. This program will alternate with BookClub on Tuesday evenings. Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis are two of this year’s Book Club selections. And film fans, Scott Adlerberg will be back on Monday evenings with his entertaining chats about the films screened at the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival.

It all kicks off in less than a month, when Poem in Your Pocket Day brings dozens of student poets and hundreds of devotees to the Reading Room on Thursday, April 18.

Word for Word has grown to be the city’s most expansive and prestigious outdoor literary series, and we can’t wait to begin our 10th season. We thank our generous sponsor, HSBC, which has been with us from the very beginning.
