As someone who dabbled in ceramics many years ago, I stood in awe of the stunning pieces Cathie Miranda has for sale at her Potterylady kiosk in Bryant Park. There you’ll find nothing but gorgeous handmade pottery in a wide array of earth tones and functional designs.
Cathie makes all of the pottery herself in her studio in Virginia, including the handmade glazes that coat each piece. This year, one of her most popular items is her sponge holder, selling for $20 apiece. Each one is carved with different shapes and patterns, and perfectly cradles a sponge to dress up any kitchen counter.
You’ll also find chip and dip bowls in deep blues and browns for $35, and berry bowls that keep fruit aerated and fresh for $40. If you have a big tea or coffee drinker on your list this year, be sure to grab one of the few remaining specialty mugs at Cathie’s shop. Each mug is thrown with two different colored clays and carved into shape. Many include rare black clay that is specially ordered from Richmond. Or if you are simply looking for something to decorate your tree, pick-up one of her curious cat ornaments for $20. They’ll be sure to fill your home with holiday cheer.
