You may have never noticed the two astrolabes at Heiskell Plaza. They sit atop each of the 'wichcraft kiosks that anchor the park at 42nd Street and 6th Avenue. In the last year these weather vanes had come loose and were sitting a little bit lopsided. They still looked interesting and beautiful, but they weren't functioning properly.
Lingering on the punch list of things to do, our Capital Projects team took advantage of access to a bucket truck that was down in Herald Square installing to pigeon proofing to get the job done here in Bryant. While the city was sleeping, we used the crew in the bucket truck to help hold the astrolabes in place, while they were stabilized with hardware from below.
Now the weather vanes can once again move freely. You'll see them turning in very heavy winds, indicating which direction things are blowing.
