When enjoying a lovely movie night in the park I can't pick just one favorite accompaniment, it's a collection of things that make the night perfect. A blanket, friends, a great bottle of wine and of course delicious snacks from 'Wich craft make the night special. Nothing compares to curling up on a blanket under the stars while watching a classic film. Movie night at Bryant Park is one of my favorite NY moments and I hope to have many more. :)

One of the first moments I realized I wanted to marry my (now) fiancee was when we saw psycho at bryant park and it started to rain. I was all set for her to complain and go home. Then she leaned over to me and whispered, "it kind of feels like we're in the shower with her now doesn't it." We're getting married on June 2nd this year.

Congrats to 20 Years in Bryant Park.
ReplyDeleteWhen my buddy, and I started this as the "HBO Bryant Park Film Festival" in the Summer of 1992, we had no idea that it would end up becoming a NY institution.
We had a 40' Da-Lite screen that we assembled on Monday morning and were forced to dismantle by 10am Tuesday. It was tied down by hundreds of 50lb weights that we stored in one of the park's stone watersheds over on the corner of 40th and 6th. We hired 30 guys from "Manpower" Temp Employment to help up carry the weights. It never blew down holding up even during one of the worst storms I've ever experienced in NYC... 4" of rain in less than 2 hours. The movie that was cancelled that night? Woodstock.
The "Silver Bullet" Airstream RV trailer was designed and built by us down on 26th street in our warehouse. It had a dual platter 35mm projector crammed into it which was run by a projectionist we hired from the Projectionist's Union Hall. [Local 306, I.A.T.S.E.]
We weren't allowed to test our specially designed sound system until 5pm. I always looked forward to playing Stings "Brand New Day" from his new solo album. It sounded amazing filling that vast area with music and having it bounce all over the buildings.
Bob from Roosevelt Island signed off on the plans as our resident engineer. (The screen had to withstand 60 mph winds)
We had 15,000 amazing NY'ers show up on that first night and it seems to be just as popular today as it was back then.
We didn't have this mad rush for blanket real estate back then. People came early and set out a blanket. It was much more civilized in my opinion.
Anyway... Congrats.
My favorite accompaniment is a good friend to laugh and cry with and some raisinets.
ReplyDeleteacroce1220@gmail.com

ReplyDeletenucci007@live.com
I think we all know that depending on the night and on the movie playing our accompaniment could be different. On the Wizard of Oz night it would be my mother hands down. Its her favorite movie of all time and reminds me of being a kid. But then we say Roman Holiday and Audrey Hepburn(who is all over my apt so I cannot wait for that!!) makes us feel a little or ALOT romantic and who better than a cuddle partner. And last but not least if its just you grab some m and m's a soda and just enjoy.

My husband and I met at the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival in 2006- the movie was "Rocky" and we were sitting on neighboring blankets. We met, dated, beacme engaged, and when we were married 4 years later, a relative made a quilt depicting our chance meeting at Bryant Park. We bring this quilt with us every Monday night and enjoy the movie together.

My hubby because he keeps me warm so no blanket needed especially if I win the reserved seats. Picnic basket full of goodies and bug repellant and since we are clean freaks and germaphobes. A garbage bag for our throwaways and sanitizer for our hands. Thanks for this great contest!!!!! nperez054@aol.com
