The Root Zone Mix

Now that Citi Pond has packed up and left for the summer, many of you are probably wondering how long it will be until you see some green grass out there. While it may look like our crews are dormant, you are mistaken!

While machinery was at a standstill today in the park, work was being done offsite to carefully mix our custom lawn base. We use a root zone mix of sand and organic matter as the base of the lawn. The composition of this material, as well as the specific height levels of this layer, are very important to allow for uniform drainage across the entire span of the lawn. If all goes well and the weather cooperates, we plan to install the irrigation system Wednesday and the sod for the lawn on Friday.
